Elder Law Practice Areas

Since our law firm was established in Michigan in 1970, we have grown in size and expanded our range of services. But we also have maintained specialties that we do extremely well. Part of the reason we work in so many fields is to provide as much as possible for our clients, fulfilling their needs no matter what their situations demand. Our practice areas include:

  • Elder Law: Our full-service division, The Center for Elder Law, can help anyone concerned about a senior citizen in or near Southeast Michigan. We help with long-term care issues and legal planning, with Medicaid, nursing home and assisted living issues, incapacity planning, estate planning, elder abuse, special spousal annuity trusts, and much more. There is a terrible gap between what the law actually is and what people believe the law to be.  Most people do not take the time to consult a specialist in this area.  Instead, they listen to half-truths and false myths and believe there is no hope.  We provide hope, security and show people how to save tens of thousands of dollars – or more – with the proper planning.
  • Estate Planning: We cannot over-emphasize the importance of early estate planning. We have seen too many ill prepared people undergo tragedies, leaving their estates in shambles.  The old adage that money can do ugly things to families is too often true. Estate planning includes wills, trusts, estate and gift tax planning, conservatorships, guardianships, durable powers of attorney, special needs planning, and much more. Even better, because our estate planning attorneys are also elder law attorneys, we offer more protections for old age that most estate planning lawyers don’t have the expertise to do.
  • Litigation: hen the proper estate planning isn’t done, it too often can lead to fights in court.  That’s when families need to turn to experience probate litigation attorneys.  In fact, we have an entire division of our law firm devoted to these family feuds and other contested legal issues that arise for families with aging seniors or loved ones who have passed.  We specialize in will and trust contests, guardianship disputes, beneficiary rights, fights over bank accounts, real estate and other assets, and so much more.  We also draw on our broad litigation background and help with all legal disputes in court, including commercial litigation, breach of contract, personal injury, and any other civil disputes. www.thecenterforprobatelitigation.com
  • Estate Administration and Probate: It takes extreme care and organization to manage an estate, and it takes experience and expertise to negotiate probate proceedings. Our attorneys have all these qualities and much more. This category also includes managing guardianships and conservatorships, protective orders, trust administration, contested wills and trusts, guardianship and conservatorship challenges, etc.  We help both those in charge and those whose rights need to be protected because those in charge aren’t doing a good job.
  • Personal Injury: We have helped Michigan residents injured in car crashes, slip and falls, malpractice, and all other types of accidents since 1970.  Unlike other personal injury attorneys, we combine our elder law expertise to provide extra service and care for anyone middle-aged or older who becomes hurt or injured.  Baby boomers and retirees who become injured have special needs and legal complications that others do not.  For those people, it’s extra important to use a personal injury attorney who is also experienced in elder law, like we are.
  • Business Law: Any business needs a good lawyer to ensure everything goes according to the strictest legal guidelines; our attorneys can and have helped every business from Fortune 500 companies to corner stores. Our services involve Limited Liability Companies (LLC's), S Corps, minority-owned businesses, Woman-Owned Businesses, buy / sell agreements, contracts, commercial formation and maintenance, loan agreements, mergers, acquisitions, sales, general and limited partnerships, promissory notes, security agreements, etc.
  • Real Estate Law: Much like our work in Business Law, Real Estate Law involves knowing the most minute of Michigan laws and applying them carefully to each case. Real Estate Law includes purchase and sale, closings, mortgages, deeds, title insurance, construction and development loans, secured transactions, and leases, and more.

In all of these areas, we always give our clients the attention and care they deserve. Please contact us for a free initial consultation to discover what we can do for you.
