Too many Detroit-area seniors don't know the importance of having a good lawyer on their side. As experienced and knowledgeable elder law attorneys, our goal is to help you plan for the future and protect and preserve the lifetime of savings that you or your loved ones have worked so hard to accumulate.
We invite you to explore our web site. In doing so, you will discover how we can help you save you, or your family, up to hundreds of thousands of dollars, through nursing home planning, estate planning or both. In fact, we can help you save this money, even for loved ones already in a nursing home! This is especially important because the average cost of a nursing home in Michigan exceeds $60,000 per year.
Every so often, Congress changes the rules of Medicaid eligibility for nursing home coverage. However, until now we have never seen such drastic changes when it comes to providing benefits to the elderly, disabled, and poor. Michigan changed the Medicaid laws on July 1, 2007 effective retroactively to February 8, 2006. In addition to these drastic changes, Michigan has implemented additional significant changes in April 2007, September 2007, October 2007 and now more changes have been proposed for 2008 as well as Michigan's new Estate Recovery laws. You are encouraged to click on this link (NEW MEDICAID LAWS AND ESTATE RECOVERY) which will provide you a brief summary of these new laws. This summary is not meant as a comprehensive summary of the changes and cannot be relied upon without seeking advice from an experienced elder law firm such as The Center for Elder Law.
The Center for Elder Law can show you how to use the current Medicaid laws to your advantage. Even with the new laws, there is no reason to spend a lifetime of savings paying for a nursing home! Don't believe the many Medicaid Myths that lead people to believe that Medicaid can't help. For example, you don’t have to spend your lifetime of savings to pay for a nursing home. You don’t usually have to wait five years to qualify for Medicaid after making a gift or transfer. You don't have to lose your home. You can protect your assets even if you or your loved one is already in a nursing home.
